As such, CEWASTE will address the specific challenge to secure the sustainable access to CRMs for the EU economy and objectives set by the EU action plan for the Circular Economy, the issue of illegal trade of wastes within the EU and to non-EU countries and the need to support the development of environmentally and socially sound recycling systems globally. Specifically, the project will develop, validate and launch a voluntary certification scheme for collection, transport and treatment facilities of key types of waste containing significant amounts of valuable and critical raw materials. To ensure a comprehensive approach and a robust result, the project will be developed along the following six specific objectives: Objective 1 - Understand existing recovery practice, standards and verification schemes; Objective 2 - Develop sustainability and traceability requirements; Objective 3 - Develop an assurance system and related verification procedures; Objective 4 - Validate the new voluntary scheme; Objective 5 - Ensure long term sustainability of the scheme; Objective 6 - Ensure a transparent stakeholder process.

Safety and competitiveness are not mutually exclusive. To deliver on them requires a pace and intensity of technological innovation that is matched by intensive regulatory innovation. Smarter, adaptive, dynamic, and evidence-based regulatory approaches are needed, based on real world experience in representative use scenarios. CYMEDSEC has been designed with an optimum consortium of regulatory, cybersecurity, technology, evaluation, and clinical EU experts to address exactly this challenge. It provides close feedback loops between new technological paradigms and recommendation of regulatory approaches, fostering regulatory science fresh thinking. It will deliver novel security-by-design solutions for the oversight of ‘Internet of Medical Things’ (IoMT) devices, including connected in vitro diagnostics. IoMT ‘fleet’ cybersecurity oversight systems will be developed. Use cases explored include remote patient monitoring and critical care scenarios, for which the project will develop novel and highly secure gateway middleware. Our technological and methodological advancement will go hand-in-hand with detailed review of regulations and guidelines, the formal creation of a new IoMT cybersecurity standard, and evidence collection from representative case studies. These objectives are holistically interlinked, with learnings form each work area feeding into development and proposals in other areas. Key to this is the in-project development of a cybersecurity benefit-risk toolbox, which will further develop the state of the art, using qualitative and quantitively approaches, and will make these available as easily usable and findable Open-Source resources for manufactures and regulatory bodies.

The proposed framework sets its foundations on the smart-readiness level of the buildings and the corresponding data collection infrastructure and management systems. It is fed by operational data and adopts the ‘digital twin’ concept to advance Building Information Modelling, calculate a novel set of energy, environmental, financial and human comfort/ wellbeing indicators, and through them the EPC classification of the building in question. Under the project vision, the proposed indicators will render dynamic EPCs a realistic, accurate and comprehensive tool that can lead the transformation of the European building stock into zero-energy buildings and stimulate energy efficient behavioural change of the building occupants. To this direction, D^2EPC proposes a digital platform that will enable the issuance and update of new EPCs on a regular basis, integrate a GIS environment and provide, on top, value added services including user-centred recommendations for energy renovation, benchmarking and forecasting of buildings’ performance as well as performance verification services. The proposed scheme will contribute to the redefinition of EPC-related policies and to the update of current standards, along with guidance for their implementation and will introduce incentivisation and restriction practices into the EPC rationale. Additional benefits include enhanced user awareness and engagement on buildings’ energy efficiency, facilitated planning and decision making on local and regional policy level. To accomplish the above, the D^2EPC framework will be demonstrated in 6 sites, while its 12 partners coming from 7 European countries will collaborate and provide their expertise and resources within the 36 months of the project’s lifetime

Accordingly, The CE has stablished ambitious building standard aiming to transform all existing buildings into ZEBs by 2050 to reach a fully decarbonised building stock. SNUG aims to demonstrate on three real buildings with different characteristics, uses and climatology, the application of an innovative methodology to support planners of new buildings or retrofitting works in selecting the most appropriate set of insulation materials, their combination and placement to maximise the energy efficiency and minimize GHG emissions of the building throughout its life cycle to make its ZEB rating more easily achievable, considering specific building characteristics and its environment, at an optimal cost level. This methodology will be supported by: -A Digital Tool Assistant based on AI and virtual simulation which will range several final options of thermal insulation materials and layouts, based on benchmarks predictions related with energy demand (operational and embedded energy), sustainability, safe & security and cost and particular features of buildings. -Innovative sustainable-by-design thermal insulation materials and lightweight prefab solutions ready to the market deployment, based on Circular Economy, Smart and/or Renewable materials, able to improve energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings in comparison with current market solutions at a competitive cost. -Insulation materials database, including technical and LCA information. Innovative thermal insulation solutions will be incorporated including current solutions in the market. This database will be released as an open data outcome. -A Digital Building Logbook, collecting all the information about the buildings throughout their whole life in a digital and interoperable format with BIM and the DTA. This DBL will facilitate decision making and information sharing within the construction sector and stakeholders
