To reach Europe climate neutrality by 2050 as ambitioned by the Green Deal strategy, it is necessary to drastically reduce emissions from aviation. Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking has set out a very ambitious innovation programme to achieve this goal but it is also necessary to create synergy with the different aeronautical regional/national funding programmes in order to create leverage effects and maximise funding impact. ECARE project’s objective is to draw linkage between European/national/regional roadmaps and aeronautical stakeholders and co-create synergies through a pilot covering 4 major aeronautical European regions (Occitanie and Nouvelle Aquitaine in France, Hamburg Land in Germany and Campania in Italy) with the aim of creating a methodology expandable to other aeronautical European regions. ECARE digital platform will provide (i) a mapping of funding opportunities, relevant projects, scientific and industrial resources, (ii) a forum for exchange of information. The ECARE Stakeholders Group (funding bodies, clusters and other aeronautical stakeholders) will foster and spread ECARE methodology. After more than a hundred interviews with aviation players, national and transnational workshops will co-elaborate and provide recommendations for CAJU Phase 2 implementation by 2025. The consortium is composed of 3 major European aeronautical clusters (Aerospace Valley, Hamburg Aviation and Campania Aerospace District) and one Belgian SME specialized in aeronautics technology services (EASN-TIS). All are experts in their domain and other European aeronautical clusters will be involved inter alia via the EACP (European Aeronautical Clusters Partnership) partnership coordinated by Hamburg Aviation cluster. Eventually the project is expected to bring together more than 300 entities via the platform and 30 ECARE Stakeholders Group members that will collaborate on the synergy to help the European aviation achieve its ambitious goals.

Materials, especially advanced materials, are the backbone and source of prosperity of an industrial society” (Materials 2030 Manifesto). The Green Deal and the Digital Decade establish high-priority policies for Europe, where 70% of all technical innovations are directly or indirectly attributed to advanced materials. Lightweight and high-strength materials have consistently played a key role in the construction of fuel-efficient and high-performing transportation structures. Lightweight materials such as glass and carbon fibres composites are commonly used due to their intrinsic properties such as high mechanical performance. However, the poor recyclability and recovery aspect poses a significant challenge. The end-of-life aspect of these materials is crucial, as when landfilled they release toxic substances into the environment. Moreover, minimising resource use, energy of manufacturing processes and optimising waste disposal of future advanced materials can help mitigate cost and product’s end-to-end footprint across its global lifecycle, thereby significantly improving its overall environmental performance. REPOXYBLE will create a new class of high-performance materials -bio-based epoxy composites- targeting cost and energy effectiveness, recyclability and sustainability. REPOXYBLE assumes an upstream approach more efficient and effective than having to address deficiencies at the end of the product development process. This approach integrates product performance, multifunctionality, sustainability, safety and potential legal concerns, while there is still time to act, on the monomers’ synthesis, the resin formulation and the future composite design. REPOXYBLE is driven by two complementary market applications in the aerospace and automotive sectors.

WInSiC4AP core objective is to contribute in developing reliable technology bricks for efficient and cost-effective applications addressing social challenges and market segments where Europe is a recognized global leader as well as automotive, avionics, railway and defence. WInSiC4AP approach is to rely on the strength of vertical integration allowing optimization, technologies fitting application requirements, developing the full ecosystem and approach relevant issues as reliability in the full scope. That enhances the competitiveness of EU- Industries as well as TIER1 and TIER2 down to the value chain in a market context where other countries today, such as the USA or Japan, are advancing and new players accessing SiC enter in the market. New topologies and architecture will be developed for targeted application simulating operational environment, at laboratory level, driving the needed and still missed technologies, components and demonstrators to fill the gap between current state of the art and the very high demanding specifications. WInSiC4AP framework has been built so that companies working in different domains (i.e. automotive car maker and TIER1-2 and avionics, railway and defence TIER1-TIER2) and in the vertical value chain (semiconductor suppliers, companies manufacturing inductors and capacitors) as well as academic entities and laboratories will collaborate to co-design solutions, solve problems and exchange know-how, such that unforeseen results may also emerge. WInSiC4AP will be supported with synergy between ECSEL JU and ESI funding enabling complementary activities with relevant economic and social impact envisage in a less development region of Union.

Industry 4.0, business digitalisation, artificial intelligence and KETs are increasingly taking centre stage, not as buzzwords but as pillars for innovation in all business sectors at a global level. The defence sector is no exception.Accordingly, all players involved in this field are experiencing evolution in business processes and human resources: the former in regard to technological advancements; the latter regarding the skills needed to exploit such technologies in the proper way.In particular, human resources need to possess or develop new knowledge, abilities, and competences to help companies complete the quantum leap which is expected from the “fourth industrial revolution”. The problem facing the European defence industry is twofold: (i) it is experiencing difficulty in finding the necessary skills in order to sustain its leadership, competitiveness and sustainability in the medium- to long-term; (ii) aging staff and difficulties in engaging and keeping young professionals are preventing the sector from reshaping company capabilities and creating new, attractive job opportunities for talented workers of any age.ASSETs+ project aspires to build a sustainable human resources supply chain which allows defence companies to innovate by both attracting highly-skilled young workers and upskilling their employees thanks to customised, complementary education & training programmes addressing three main technologies: Robotics, C4ISTAR and Cybersecurity aspects related to the first two.The project will focus on 4 main activities:Skill Strategy to translate the selected technologies into actionable sets of relevant fine-grained skills to be (potentially) transformed into new job profiles;Design of three training programmes to address high-school students, university students, employees;E&T programme realisation and improvement;Development of community of practice (i) and body of knowledge (ii) to promote new skills acquisition, development and retention
