The overall objective of BioEcon is to develop, extend and fully unlock the research potential of IUNG in accordance with the new global strategies trends and changes in national needs through the creation of an excellent international and interdisciplinary department on bio-economy and systems analysis. The knowledge, experience, developed tools, research programme and collaborations will allow the institute to maintain the new unit in the institute also after the completion of the ERA Chairs project, it will operate in close cooperation with the rest of the departments of the Institute, with main purpose being regional development in line with knowledge-based bio-economy. This structural change in IUNG is a response to an identified need and potential on the national level and will receive the support of public authorities, industry and other research structures. The specific objectives of BioEcon are as follows:  Improvement of research organization and management, which includes the administrative and policy structural changes.  Update of Research and innovation strategy, in full compliance with Polish RIS3 and implement a brand new approach of interdisciplinary research performance, aiming to promote and develop bio-economy.  Intensive interaction with policy makers and stakeholders to mobilize regional support, transfer research outcomes and foster the regional development through involvement of all economic actors in a strategic growth path.  Increase research excellence in the field of bio-economy and system analysis through human capacity upgrade, implementation of a training programme, and collaboration with excellent research partners from abroad  Concentration of resources and widening of participation in international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral projects through bridging Cohesion and innovation funds with H2020 and other EU funded opportunities  Massive dissemination to promote bio-economy and exploit the existing potential in region.

FERTITEC builds upon the knowledge gained from previous EU-funded projects, such as Novafert, FER-PLAY, MainstreamBIO, SOILUTIONS, SuMaNu, AgroTechnology ATLAS, B-FERST, NOVAFERT, CINURGI, Manure Standards, SUSFERT, NUTRI-KNOW, NUTRIMAN etc. which have explored the potential of waste management and nutrient recovery from various perspectives. By integrating the insights and technological advancements from these previous initiatives, FERTITEC is positioned to deliver a comprehensive solution for waste recycling and sustainable fertiliser production from secondary raw materials. The principal objectives of this group of related projects, that FERTITEC aligns with and supports, are to transform waste into high-quality fertilisers, promote a circular economy, and mitigate environmental impact, thereby aligning with the EU's goals of sustainable agriculture, waste reduction, and bioeconomy enhancement. FERTITEC is commited to develop competitive fertilisers that are not only benefit agricultural yield but also promote a circular economy model, aligning with the EU's strategic focus. This dual focus of environmental sustainability and economic viability resonates with the objectives of our previous projects, which aimed to boost the marketability of bio-based products and harmonise global sustainability certification systems respectively. By involving key actors from the agriculture sector and facilitating multi-stakeholder discussion through our KEP, FERTITEC fosters a community-driven approach to boost sustainable innovation in the fertiliser sector. We seek to make a tangible impact at national and regional levels, by deploying our best availalbe fertilising techniques in several EU countries, as well as extrapolationg our outcomes to the African Union landscape by providing practical recommendations and guidelines. Overall with FERTITEC we aim the adoption of our alternative fertilising products and the wider transformation of the agricultural sector globally.

BioReg project proposes to create a platform of stakeholders who are able to influence and develop their regions towards bio-based industries and products. Demonstrator case studies have been selected among European regions – Gothenburg, (SE); Karlsruhe, Baden-Wurttember (Ge), Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna (IT), North West England (UK) and Vorarlberg and Syria, Austria. Those have set up renewable wood waste-based systems at different stages of the waste wood value chain including different wood waste source, pre-sorting, sorting, collection, recycling and wood waste treatment (to materials, biochemicals or biofuels) as well as the different gradings and regional wood waste composition in each country. 3 recipient regions were selected for this project in regards to their unused waste wood potential: Normandy (France), Lublin (Poland), Andalucia (Spain). The BioReg platform will function on two levels. On the EU level: best practices in terms of strategies and technologies as well as implementing mechanisms will be shared with the beneficiary recipient regions on the project and disseminated to many other potential regions in the EU (EUBIA). The platform will will encourage the collaboration of members and stakeholders on the European level. On the regional level: the best practices will be replicated in the three beneficiary regions. The proposal offers collaboration with regional existing clusters, constructive dialogue with regional authorities and policy makers, industrial and RTD establishments in the recipient regions. It will mobilize the recipient regions to develop the existing potential for industrial innovative projects and build bio-based ecosystems. Industries, regions and investors will be brought together to establish an efficient dialogue so that demand and supply can be aligned and large impact projects can be realized. The project proposes mechanisms to engage the stakeholders in collaboration also after the EU funding on BioReg is over.
