The ecosystems in Crete, GR and the Oeiras region, PT, have already demonstrated a rich portfolio of activities to tackle the problem of efficient diagnosis outside a centralized lab. The DxHub will bring the two isolated regions together and, through a common R&I plan, accelerate innovations in diagnostics into impactful solutions by embracing the quadruple helix of main innovation players. Cutting-edge R&Is will be promoted based on joint research, innovation and investment plans. Pilot projects will be used to interlink academia with business providing solutions addressing the health, veterinary and agri/food sectors, all in line with both regions’ strategic priorities. In parallel, the efficient communication, dissemination and exploitation of the DxHub outcomes to the broad ecosystem will ensure high societal impact as a result of the co-development and acceptance of the new innovations by all actors of the quadruple helix. We expect that by building strong links between all payers of DxHub will foster knowledge transfer leading to the creation of new jobs and of attractive and sustainable place-based innovation ecosystems.

The BoS will offer opportunities to engage with communities for an environmentally sustainable, socially fair, and aesthetically appealing transition. Seven lighthouse demonstrators, located in four different regions and aquatic ecosystems in Portugal (estuary), Italy (lagoon and gulf), Sweden/Germany (strait / north sea / river), and the Netherlands/Belgium (delta) will showcase the transformational and uptake impact at the EU level serving as lighthouse pilots for the implementation of Horizon Europe mission objectives and showcase innovative solutions. The seven pilots will all provide tangible examples of mission-oriented approaches that are impactful, measurable, and targeted. The action plan includes the deployment of "drops" in all pilots designed to generate "ripple" effects at the local (demonstrator) level but then also at the city/region levels (demonstrating effects of scale) and at a broader level (demonstrating the replication. The BoSS, therefore, introduces an ecocentric narrative both cosmopolitan and rooted in nature-based solutions, plural, and testimonial, proposing to apply a design approach to complex socio-technical-ecological and more-than-anthropocentric problems. An agenda that moves from fixing to caring, from growth to nurture, from certainty to contingency, will enable designers, architects, and engineers to think about assemblages instead of systems and change the outcome from extinction to precarious flourishing. The design of these interactions generates the emergence of new aesthetics and, most decisively, a critical awareness of the history, contemporary, and future: designing beyond humans as a way to sustain our future.

These hubs will accelerate the energy transition by fostering innovation ecosystems, building capacities, and empowering local stakeholders. Employing a quadruple helix model, the ECHO consortium engaged academia, industry, government, and civil society in a collaborative framework. To achieve this, ECHO will: - Create a networking platform for continuous stakeholder collaboration, enabling resource sharing, knowledge exchange, and the dissemination of best practices. - Implement an expert collaboration program, injecting cutting-edge knowledge and practices to enhance the project's R&I potential. - Deliver tailored training programs to develop hard and soft skills across the energy community value chain. - Establish diverse pilot projects demonstrating advanced energy services, technology transfer, and solutions to energy poverty. These pilots will emphasize either direct citizen ownership (Renewable/Citizen Energy Communities) or models where service providers own assets while upholding democratic principles and strong community engagement. ECHO's focus on sustainable, scalable, and inclusive Energy Communities aligns with EU energy transition goals. By bridging regional strengths and empowering stakeholders, ECHO will contribute significantly to a resilient and equitable energy landscape.

The science behind these disruptive phenomena is complex, and advancing climate resilience requires progress in data acquisition, forecasting, and understanding of the potential risks and impacts for real-scenario interventions. The Ecosystem-Based Approach (EBA) supported by smart technologies has potential to increase climate resilience of European coastal cities; however, it is not yet adequately understood and coordinated at European level. SCORE outlines a co-creation strategy, developed via a network of 10 coastal city ‘living labs’ (CCLLs), to rapidly, equitably and sustainably enhance coastal city climate resilience through EBAs and sophisticated digital technologies. SCORE will establish an integrated coastal zone management framework for strengthening EBA and smart coastal city policies, creating European leadership in coastal city climate change adaptation in line with The Paris Agreement. The Coastal City Living Lab (CCLL) is a new concept that expands the Living Lab approach to coastal cities and settlements. CCLLs will be set up to address specific climate challenges, and their effectiveness will be assessed by different stakeholders through innovative monitoring systems and cutting-edge modelling approaches. SCORE will develop CCLLs in a network of 10 cities which learn from each other in different frontrunner and follower roles. SCORE will involve citizen science in providing prototype coastal city early-warning systems and will enable smart, instant monitoring and control of climate resilience in European coastal cities through open, accessible spatial ‘digital twin’ tools. SCORE will provide innovative platforms to empower stakeholders’ deployment of EBAs to increase climate resilience, business opportunities and financial sustainability of coastal cities.
