Open Access Mandate for Publications assignment_turned_in Project2014 - 2015Partners:University of Aveiro, LOBAUniversity of Aveiro,LOBAFunder: European Commission Project Code: 633219Overall Budget: 154,125 EURFunder Contribution: 154,125 EURIt’s our intention to organize the 9th and 10th edition of the Researchers’ Night initiative – The Science@Aveiro, General public and researchers – Closing the Gap. We propose two events for 2014 and 2015, around the themes of “Materials” and “Light” respectively. Besides the different themes, this integrated edition will not forget the fact that in 2015 the Researchers Nigth’ initiative will celebrate their 10th anniversary. To celebrate that, in 2014 we will launch the “Competition 10th anniversary of Researchers’ Night”, involving categories on drawing, photography and video. This competition is on the theme “Research is everywhere” and it is dedicated to the general public but we expect more in impact at the students’ community. The location for both events will be the City of Aveiro. Aveiro is in the centre of an industrial spot, diversified in terms of sector of activity and one of the most dynamics in Portugal. Furthermore, Aveiro is known as the city of research and innovation, as a consequence of the projects that have been developed in different areas and to his Innovative University (Universidade de Aveiro). The broad aim of the Science@Aveiro event is to bring researchers closer to the Portuguese society and tourist present at the Aveiro City highlighting the researchers “ordinary character”. The target group for this activity is the large public without any distinction of social categories, educational level, gender, age, etc. Different subcategories like kids, teenagers, adults, teachers, parents, “ordinary people”, researchers, entrepreneurs, tourists, politicians are to be reached as parts of the general public. The Science@Aveiro project will be implemented by Universidade de Aveiro - Fábrica Ciência Viva Science Centre and Globaz, SA. With the support of Municipality of Aveiro, Association for Education and Exploitation of Aveiro Region and Group of Schools Aveiro.

They will take multiple forms ranging from informative, educational and entertaining in multiple domains such as cultural heritage, tourism, transport, education, lifestyle etc. They are set to be the next big thing in IT as indicated by the millions of dollars invested by the likes of Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple in the development of such experiences (e.g. Ingress) or the acquisition of start-ups (e.g. Magic Leap). Some roadblocks however slow down their advent. The complexity and cost of their development, requires a combination of high expertise in multiple domains (e.g. software development, networking, geo-positioning, simulation, user interfaces). MAGELLAN redefines LBEs on mobile devices worldwide, by leveraging a codeless platform for the rapid and cost-effective creation and promotion of LBEs/games, harnessing a global ecosystem of authors. By removing inherent barriers, MAGELLAN aims at tapping at the unlocked value residing within the creativity of people and organizations alike. MAGELLAN is a 24-month activity, leading to a market-ready product and a new business entity to drive the adoption and scale-up of the platform and the value propositions stemming from that. Based on the excellent outputs of the MAGELLAN FP7 Project and their long-standing partnership, the two main industrial applicants (EXUS, DXT) will drive the platform towards commercialization. A partnership has been established with LOBA and INCONITO, two esteemed marketing and business strategy companies, to complement the effort with the necessary skills that will help drive adoption. The funding requested will support the first steps towards commercialization until the business becomes self-sustainable (even at marginal profits).

BIOMASS TECHNOLOGY GROUP BV,Novamont (Italy)Funder: European Commission Project Code: 837858Overall Budget: 272,062 EURFunder Contribution: 249,875 EURLIFT will maximise the impact of Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs) by valorising their outcomes and promoting the collaboration among them. Lift aims at identifying gaps to be addressed to ensure a stimulating environment boosting the bio-based economy. In short LIFT will: 1)Provide a global vision of objectives and results of past and ongoing Coordination and Support Actions 2)Maximise the impact of CSAs results, and make them actionable by industries and policy makers. 3)Analyse existing CSA programming gaps and identify challenges to be addressed, through multistakeholders’ collaboration 4)Raise awareness and communicate the CSAs’ contribution in addressing bioeconomy-related challenges 5)Provide actionable recommendations and suggestions for new CSA topics for AWP 2020 LIFT will start with thorough mapping of relevant CSAs, the synthesis of their results and the analysis of CSA programming gaps vis-à-vis long-term bio-based industry objectives. LIFT will cover the identification of all relevant stakeholders and the creation and animation of a network of stakeholders. Next, LIFT findings and assets will be made readily available, integrated and especially actionable by industries and policy makers. To this end LIFT will unlock bio-economy CSA outputs through an online library, transform LIFT findings and results into Actionable Knowledge, and organise active stakeholder dialogue through Mobilisation and Mutual Learning (MML) workshops. LIFT activities, events, achievements, findings and online library results will be disseminated widely. The project will culminate in recommendations for future CSA programming contributing to the creation of a stimulating environment for a sustainable, strong and competitive bio-based industry in Europe. The recommendations will be validated with EC, BIC and BBI JU. They will include clear measures to ensure sustainability and exploitation of results. The LIFT consortium is industry-led and well- experienced in BBI JU.

E2i adopts a human-centred, transdisciplinary approach (as demonstrated in CCI – GA: 787100), recognising innovation as requiring both key elements: novelty and implementation. Social Innovation is a human-centred approach to developing meaningful solutions rooted in a rich understanding of end-user contexts, such that novel ideas (inventions) are actually implemented. Through effective engagement with security policymakers, researchers, and practitioners across the quadruple helix, E2i will champion good practice in Social Innovation and human-centred design. Researchers will demonstrate and deliver the E2i Security R&I Toolbox: (i) enabling adoption of Social Innovation and human-centred design approaches to engage citizens and end users in security R&I; (ii) supporting security R&I actions in framing and designing security solutions and outputs and optimising their acceptance and adoption; (iii) providing benchmarks, standards and quality criteria for security solutions through Responsible Research and Innovation; and thereby (iv) strengthening EU security research and innovation. To promote the engagement of citizens and end users, E2i will develop a Societal Development Plan describing the current landscape of Social Innovation. This will provide guidance on how the approach can strengthen EU security research and innovation, and include an explanatory conceptual model and practical exemplars to inspire and motivate. Finally, E2i will build on the enthusiasm and inspiration of the next generation of researchers and design thinkers through two international Social Innovation Design Challenges, showcasing new innovative thinking and solution concepts while fostering adoption of E2i outputs.
