Open Access Mandate for Publications and Research data assignment_turned_in Project2025 - 2029Partners:KUL, TH!NK E, BERTELS, University of Perugia, NOVA IDKUL,TH!NK E,BERTELS,University of Perugia,NOVA IDFunder: European Commission Project Code: 101223328Funder Contribution: 3,760,070 EURPhotonia aims to decarbonise and decentralise nitrogen fertiliser production by local solar-driven processes, thus minimizing the environmental impact and enhancing the accessibility of fertilisers. The radical new concept for ammonium synthesis converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonium nitrate using solar energy. The technology concept leverages innovations in photochemistry and photocatalysis to boost the nitrogen circular economy, define the roadmap toward the decentralized production of fertilizers and maximize the solar spectrum utilization in agriculture. In the scope of this project, we aim at TRL4 by tackling the application scenario in horticulture, where the Photonia panels could be installed in greenhouses to convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonium nitrate using solar light.

Every1 starts from a deep data-informed understanding of stakeholders and ecosystems (citizen, cities, energy communities, companies, regulators, and distribution grid operators) to map who they are, what they know, how they use information and where they look for it. Similarly are existing and emerging solutions (products and services) assessed and validated, and use cases will serve to understand what stakeholders need to know in order to take up a role that matches their potential. This gap is used to develop learning pathways that lead to the identification of the needed capacity building material. Parallel, Every1 works on making a market by exchanging best practices with policy makers and energy regulators, enabling discussions on barriers, and developing joint communication material for their peers. A strong outreach campaign is launched which focusses on the local level with impactful social media campaigns, material in various languages and spread through the media the local stakeholders use. The operation of the ecosystems is based on the proven EXPLORE SHAPE UNITE approach and includes guided one-on-one support, joint activities, webinars, matchmaking, and more. Future ecosystems are actively engaged and trained, while cooperation with diverse activities and networks will lead to a wider uptake of the capacity building material.

By building on and connecting existing knowledge sharing platforms for local and regional authorities, the project aims to highlight overlapping opportunities in implementing local adaptation measures and meeting regional socio-economic policy objectives between climate adaptation and regional development. The project also empowers authorities to assess the impacts of adaptation and regional transformation measures with a focus on citizen well-being and awareness of maladaptation risks. JustREACH not only provides new tools but also equips authorities with the means to use them effectively within existing decision-making processes by working with pilot partners who themselves are decision-makers in their own regions. The training that will be developed as a result of JustREACH outputs and experiences will aim to strengthen the capacities of all local and regional authorities to identify and overcome barriers, and to co-design with and mobilize community leaders, businesses, and citizens to adopt and scale up context-specific initiatives. Most importantly, JustREACH helps authorities and citizens alike to overcome implementation goals while also linking these actions to their consequences for equity, ecosystem health, the just transition and social justice.

Building on an impressive experience in the field, the following innovations have been put forward: Decision support tools for optimisation of building site preparations, integration of balconies and overhangs, and for the integration and selection of HVAC and RES technology; Optimisation of the process planning using advancements to spatiotemporal planning; Development of an improved anchoring system and panel-panel connections, optimised for automized non-sequential mounting, de/re-mounting; Self-positioning system and end-effectors thereon to support autonomous anchor and panel placement; Phased optimisation of the factory automation for cost reduction and quality improvement. These innovations will lead to cost savings beyond the aimed 25% and considerable time savings. Elaborate testing for disruptive events is previewed in Switzerland and Spain, while 4 complementary demonstrations will be delivered in Estonia, Switzerland, France, and Belgium. Stakeholders are engaged from the onset of the project, and wider uptake is actively integrated in RENOMIZEs concept through certification, technical assistance and various capacity building activities.

Motivated by achieving an equitable and sustainable future and the fulfillment of individual potential, ENCLUDE will contribute to the upcoming transformation of energy use by: - Assembling, aligning and adapting disparate energy citizenship concepts for diverse communities of citizens and for different scales of policy making, lowering the barrier for action. - Operationalizing the energy citizenship concept at all scales of policy making for decarbonization. - Catalyzing a chain reaction of decarbonization actions across the EU. ENCLUDE is dedicated not only to the co-creation of new knowledge with stakeholders about the emergence and consolidation of energy citizenship, but also to the uptake of this knowledge to mobilize action for decarbonization, taking into account the interests and struggles of diverse citizen groups, including communities, who are not usually invited or expected to participate in these civic processes. ENCLUDE does this by integrating public engagement throughout the project life cycle rather than at the end of project for dissemination and communication purposes only. The process between knowledge production and implementation includes learning feedback loops between research partners, public authorities, civic organizations and citizens.
