SAMCAPS is a high-quality research program that aims to train young professionals in the field of colloid and polymer science through the collaboration between top-level European academic and industrial entities. The goal of the project is to address the current need for bio-degradable materials and efficient consumer goods usage, by exploiting new eco-friendly materials and methods of encapsulation that will be applied in home- and beauty care consumer products where the targeted delivery of beneficial actives is required. In this way, SAMCAPS tackles the challenge of the chemical industry, as a response to international undertakings such as the Paris Climate Act and the Europe 2020 policies for smart, for sustainable and effective chemical use driving the growth of the industry. This program will contribute to a resource-efficient Europe, by the development of highly qualified scientists, experts in the needs chemical industry of tomorrow, by design of highly effective and functionalized materials through green methods, and efficient use of materials by encapsulation and targeted delivery of benefit agents in a broad variety of consumer good products. The ground-breaking and environmentally sustainable technologies developed through the exchange of knowledge between industry and academia will thereby translate into economic and societal value.

SMARTMEM is a multidisciplinary project leveraging the emerging technology platforms around so-called smart membranes and evolving this platform to commercial use in consumer good products. The objective of this project is the training of 5 PhD students in various scientific fields around membrane technology, involving disciplines from advanced materials synthesis, to membrane production, linking product application and product performance driving new consumer value. The training will be setup in a multi sector way for the students to learn the technical depth of the disciplines as well as the innovation cycle from idea to market application and commercialisation. The objective of the project will be achieved through finding applicability in established markets like textiles with functional benefits, air care devices with health benefits and innovate beyond like develop improved microcapsules which release on demand and improved single dose detergent products, among others. Therefore, SMARTMEM will contribute to accomplish the goals of Europe 2020 strategy through: - training of highly skilful scientists in emerging fields such as stimuli-responsive materials - placing Europe at the vanguard of innovation in sustainable consumer goods by smart controlled release

The objective of this FTI project is to bring two unique and complementary commercial products to the market: “Nuvoic Home” and “Nuvoic Shop”. At the same time, the project will create commercial added value by inherently advancing Voiceitt’s novel core speech recognition technology for impaired speech. The strengthened speech technology in the new products will enable people with motor, cognitive and speech-related challengeThe objective of this FTI project is to bring two unique and complementary commercial products to the market: “Nuvoic Home” and “Nuvoic Shop”. At the same time, the project will create commercial added value by inherently advancing Voiceitt’s novel core speech recognition technology for impaired speech. The strengthened speech technology in the new products will enable people with motor, cognitive and speech-related challenges to access the benefits of mainstream voice-driven technologies, thus (we intend to demonstrate) improving independence and quality of life for these individuals. The consortium includes e-commerce giant, Procter & Gamble, that will leverage branding power, customer research and marketing methods to propel market uptake; the UK-based Karten Network and Belgium-based IMEC are highly recognised institutions that bring deep customer understanding and technical knowledge. The Nuvoic project will benefit people with speech and motor disabilities, and elderly with non-standard speech patterns, by providing the affected individuals an effective means to communicate with the people around them, as well as access to the benefits of mainstream voice-driven devices and technologies. It foresees product launches in 2022 and 2023 and presents a solid business opportunity on a product and sales level that will generate a turnover of €107Million in three years (2026), along with the potential to create real impact on the lives of disabled and elderly citizens of Europe and the world. Thus, paving the way towards a more inclusive society.
