RADIAL

RADIAtion source of Light for picosecond laser pulse applications
Funder: European CommissionProject code: 101034761 Call for proposal: H2020-FETOPEN-2018-2019-2020-4
Funded under: H2020 | CSA-LSP Funder Contribution: 100,000 EUR
Description

The RADIAL project aims at developing a novel type of radiation source producing ultrashort light pulses in a burst and at will. It is based on a state of the art solid-state superradiant emitter developed in the frame of the SUPERTWIN project. Based on advanced III-V alloy epitaxial growths and wafer processing techniques the solid-state emitter utilizes the cooperative effect of Dicke superradiance (super-fluorescence) emission and is capable to produce on demand sub-picosecond 60-100 pJ energy optical pulses in the near –infrared spectral range (800 nm wavelength). A main objective of the project is to identify the various applications for such radiation source and to demonstrate the ability of the source to achieve the respective requirements. Finally a market study of the most promising applications will be performed. Preliminary analysis is pointing on the partial replacement market of large Ti:S mainframe lasers used in two-photon fluorescence lifetime imaging, THz antennas, quantum optics as well as on the market of pulsed lasers for LIDAR applications.
