The Free Electron Laser Facility FELIX

Description

The FELIX Laboratory provides infrared and THz radiation with energies corresponding to low energy vibrational, spin and electronic excitations in solids and molecules in solution and gas phase. Therefore, the FELIX lasers are ideally suited to study the ground state properties that determine the structure and function of matter in general. In this low energy region of the electromagnetic spectrum no powerful, widely tunable and pulsed sources other than free electron lasers (FELs) exist. The threefold mission of the FELIX Laboratory is the development of advanced infrared and THz laser sources, the execution of an excellent in-house research programme and the exploitation of an world competitive research facility attracting (inter)national users from a broad range of scientific disciplines.
